Vastu Shastra is the ancient Indian science of architecture and spatial energy. You do not need to rebuild your home to benefit from it. Here are simple, practical tips.
Keep the Entrance Clear
The main entrance is considered the mouth of energy. Keep it clean, well-lit and free of clutter. A beautiful doormat and a small plant can make a positive difference.
Balance the Five Elements
Every space has five elements — earth, water, fire, air and space. Use colours and objects to balance them:
- **Earth:** heavy furniture, ceramics
- **Water:** fountains, bowls of water, aquariums
- **Fire:** candles, red accents, good lighting
- **Air:** open windows, wind chimes, plants
- **Space:** open areas, minimal clutter
Bedroom Basics
Place the bed so your head points toward the south or east when sleeping. Avoid mirrors directly facing the bed if they disturb your peace.
Kitchen Direction
The southeast is traditionally considered ideal for the kitchen because it is associated with fire. If that is not possible, focus on keeping the cooking area clean and organised.
Remember
Vastu is a guideline, not a rigid rule. The goal is to create a space that feels calm, functional and supportive.
